Angel Food Cake
Grandma Bea made a lot of Angel Food Cakes...and she talked bad about a "box" angel food whenever she could (though I never remember her not eating them). I made one of the MANY angel food recipes Dad found in her book.
Anything written on the back of an envelope has to be good....
It really took 15 eggs - I had really good eggs from a friend with chickens. Nice.
I whipped the whites for a good 10 minutes with the KitchenAide. SO glad I was not using the hand powered egg beaters.
A 3G had to come check it out...I think my reminiscing about "Grandma's angel food cake pan..." just got to her.
Dad did the honors of cutting and critiquing the cake. Of course, there was real whipped cream and sugared strawberries to top the cake.
Whipped cream placement - as a 3G looks on. HURRY UP GRANDDAD!
The cake was delicious. Much denser than a box angel food but a richer flavor. Everyone loved it - but with strawberries and whipped cream I think anything would taste wonderful.
Sorry, Grandma, but for the time and money to make it from scratch I think I would do the box cake next time...they are really pretty good.
Love you, Grandma Bea. Wish you were here.
